About

Professional

I am a professional nerd.  I am currently working for one of IBM’s top partners on the WebSphere Portal product.  I’ve been in IT for about 10 years.  Started off in SAP and made my way to web programming because I thought it would be more fun.  Initially I was doing a lot of PHP and ASP work, but my employer made the switch to Java.  Seems like a hundred years ago, but it was around 2003 when I moved to the world under the influence of Sun.  Been working on Portal since version 4.1, so even regular web J2EE JEE web programming is getting a little foreign :).

I really enjoy what I do, especially when a project goes live and people are actually using what we’ve architected/coded.  I’m a big fan of Spring and just keeping things pragmatic.  I’m not a big fan of making things complicated for complications sake.  At this point I know quite a bit about WebSphere Portal.  A quick unoffical count has me having worked on 11 sites that have gone live using portal.  However, it has so many capabilities and IBM is constantly adding functionality so I’m sure there are large areas I haven’t touched yet.
